The role
Reporting to the Manager Mining, the main objective of the Senior Mining Engineer is to perform professional work involving considerable independence in approach, demanding a considerable degree of originality, ingenuity and judgement, and knowledge of more than one field of, or area of expertise.
Key responsibilities include:
• Developing and maintaining relationships with clients;
• Planning and managing projects. This will include coordinating the preparation of: cost estimates, tender submissions, technical documentation, client report and monitoring project progress, project scheduling/resourcing, and meeting deadlines and budgets;
• Independently identifying programs and problems to be investigated;
• Assisting in the establishment of discipline-related policies and procedures as directed by overall organisational controls;
• Assisting in managing the work financially, technically and contractually;
• Maintaining an industry awareness
The person
You will hold a relevant Mining qualification and would be eligible for membership to the AUSIMM or already be a member. You will have extensive experience in the mining sector including mine planning, mine design and mine management of open pit mining operations. Additionally, your practical experience utilising mining software such as Vulcan, Surpac or Minesite, familiarity with the various international reporting standards and demonstrated experience with a diverse range of metalliferous mine operations will be highly advantageous. Key to your selection and success will be your advanced skills in written and spoken English.

The role
Reporting to the Team Leader - Mining the Senior Mining Engineer will act as a positive role model and will lead by example through the contribution to and the promotion of a safe, satisfying and challenging work environment. Through focus on technical excellence, the role will contribute positively to our reputation as a coal capable hub in APAC and the planned profitability for the region.
This position delivers technical services and supervision in relation to mine design and engineering activities for designated project outcomes, including technical integrity and internal quality control.
Other key responsibilities include; reverse estimation and reporting, due diligence studies, scoping/pre-feasibility and feasibility studies and technical audits.
The incumbent will work as part of a team delivering mine design solutions and other mine infrastructure projects on time and on budget, while meeting Coffey’s exacting quality standards.
The person
To ensure your success in this critical role, you will have as a minimum a Bachelor of Engineering (Mining).
You must have considerable experience participating in declaring and signing off of ore reserves, you will be highly proficient in mine design, planning and scheduling. Significant practical background in at least some of the following is required:
• Open pit or underground coal (including operations and technical services)
• Technical report writing
• Ore Reserve estimation and reporting
Familiarity with the various international reporting standards (JORC Code, NI43-101, SAMREC etc) would be advantageous. Key to your selection and success will be your advanced skills in written and spoken English.
