Fauna & Flora International (FFI) protects threatened species and ecosystems worldwide, choosing solutions that are sustainable, based on sound science and take account of human needs. Operating in more than 40 countries worldwide – mainly in the developing world – FFI saves species from extinction and habitats from destruction, while improving the livelihoods of local people. Founded in 1903, FFI is the world’s longest established international conservation body and a registered charity. FFI’s headquarters are in Cambridge, UK and the FFI Asia Pacific Programme has offices in Hanoi, Beijing, Jakarta, Phnom Penh, and Manila. FFI has sister organisations FFI Inc. based in Washington DC and FFI Australia based in Melbourne.

The FFI Indonesia Programme was initiated in 1997 and now comprises a broad programme with an annual budget of USD 3 million, supporting activities ranging from field conservation projects to policy development. Species conservation is an important part of the programme with projects currently targeting Sumatran elephants, Sumatran tigers, and Borneo orangutans. Landscape initiatives emphasize mainstreaming biodiversity and environmental concerns into land use planning and conservation management and building a constituency for conservation. Projects in Aceh and Western Kalimantan respond to the sustainable development agenda and include partnerships with the private sector. FFI is currently strongly engaged in the development of Reduced Emissions for Deforestation and Degradation (REDD) projects. FFI engages in national and local policy dialogues and contributes toward national strategies and action plans for orangutans, elephants and tigers and the development of provincial and government frameworks for REDD. In identifying and implementing initiatives, FFI works through partnerships with Indonesian organizations and works to build the capacity of its partners where needed. FFI is flexible and responds to needs to provide practical support at the appropriate level.

FFI is seeking an experienced and committed conservationist to fill the post of Programme Director. S/he will be responsible for the oversight and strategic development of the Indonesia Programme.
