THE ASEAN SECRETARIAT IN JAKARTA INVITES ASEAN NATIONALS FROM BRUNEI DARUSSALAM, MYANMAR, PHILIPPINES, AND VIET NAM TO APPLY FOR THE FOLLOWING VACANCY

DEPUTY SECRETARY-GENERAL FOR COMMUNITY AND CORPORATE AFFAIRS (DSG CCA)

Background:

The ASEAN Charter signed by the ASEAN Heads of Government/State in Singapore on 20 November 2007 has provided new impetus to ASEAN's integration efforts by establishing a legal and institutional framework required to achieve the ASEAN Community by 2015. The ASEAN
Secretariat is positively positioned to provide the necessary functions required to effectively support the Community-building process. This includes a Secretariat organisation structure that is aligned to the requirements of the Charter and their respective Community Blueprints, namely: ASEAN Political and Security Community (APSC), ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), and ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC).

Currently, the ASEAN Secretariat is looking for a suitable candidate to fill the vacancy of Deputy Secretary-General Community and Corporate Affairs (DSG CCA) who will be responsible for research, public affairs, community outreach and core corporate functions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The DSG CCA will assist the ASEAN Secretary-General and will be responsible for providing strategic direction and guidance research, public affairs, outreach programmes for the ASEAN Community and for the implementation of corporate support functions, including core
corporate services and ensuring clear prioritisation and alignment to overall policy objectives. The DSG CCA will ensure that ASEAN Secretariat has in place the systems, procedures and resources required to fulfill its mandate.

This post is a senior-level management position where the person will have to contribute to the collective leadership of ASEAN Secretariat and exercise managerial responsibilities apart from
possessing expert knowledge in the financial and human resource management.

Requirements:
. Advanced degree Management, Law, Public Policy, Public Administration and/or relevant fields.
. A minimum of 15 years of working experience with a proven track record in public policy development and negotiation and senior level exposure in government (including Ministerial level), inter-governmental, and/or international organization.
. A solid understanding of international and regional issues, and knowledge of and commitment to ASEAN ideals.
. High-level ability to lead and motivate staff in a dynamic and demanding environment.
. High-level interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills, including experience in cross-cultural environment and international settings.
. High-level ability to develop and maintain sound working relationships with government representatives, public and private sector organisations and other stakeholders.
. Commitment to consultative and collaborative approaches and work practices.
. Excellent command of English, written and spoken.

General qualifications:
Familiarity with diplomatic practices and protocol. Other required qualities are: computer literacy and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office tools; ability to multi-task, work long and
irregular hours, and perform outside the usual job scope; ability to function effectively independently and as part of a team; and a willingness to travel frequently on short notice.

Remuneration and Benefits:
Successful candidate will be offered the post with a probation period of six months and monthly salary commensurate with his/her personal qualifications starting from USD 7,835. There are other applicable benefits which include housing, medical, education of dependent children, gratuity, and annual performance bonus. Upon completion of the probationary period, the candidate will be confirmed as DSG for a three-year contract, inclusive of the six-month probationary period, in the first instance.
